How it all began

Breanne

On my twenty-fifth birthday, here in Salt Lake City, I sat with my head in my lap crying on my couch in my apartment I could feel the tears rolling down. I was sad that at twenty-five years old, I had not accomplished anything or had that great of a life, thus far. I wrote poetry in my spare time to express how I felt and most of it was not that up lifting. I had nothing exciting to write about. At times it crossed my mind how uneventful my life has been. I did not care if I lived that long in this life; it was not that exciting for me. Many years have passed since the last time I was unhappy with my life. A friend of mine, named Breanne, has helped me find true happiness and see a new light in this life.
In the winter month of February 2005, I moved to Salt Lake City, to live on my own and to experience life. I did not know many people when I first drove up here from California, but since I am a Latter Day Saint, I went to a church dance one night so I could meet new people. I went alone and met some people that night. My eyes caught the beauty of a girl and I could not stray away from, her smile could be seen miles away. Her eyes were so pretty you could get lost in them if you stared for a long time; she is tall 5’9, has brown hair, and is the type of girl you would want to take home to your mom and meet the family. This was the girl that seemed to be all that and so much more; the type of girl I would want to be with.
Throughout the dance we chatted and got to know one another. I felt so comfortable with this girl. Eventually we went outside and talked in the nice brisk cold night. As she was standing against the brick wall I slowly went in for the one kiss I will never forget. There are moments in our lives that stick with us forever; this will be one for me. We then exchanged telephone numbers to stay in touch. We continued to stay in contact with one another see each other the following days. Since I was new in town I was not looking for a relationship, nor was I ready for one. Some how and some way things slowly drifted apart between the two of us, we did not call or go see one another for over two years.
I was working for Lowe’s hardware in March 2006, in Salt Lake City. I asked a few young ladies if they needed help finding anything, one was really cute. The attractive one looked familiar and I could not recall where I had seen her. She had an advantage over me; I was wearing a name tag. She told me her name which brought everything back from that church dance over two years ago. We chatted for a bit, I said “Hey, let me get your number so we can catch up with one another”. The funny thing was at the same time I ran into her; I was dating another girl from work so I ended up not calling Breanne. I eventually broke things off with the other girl a few days later. A week passed by and that Thursday I was at my other job in the Gateway called The Body Shop. It was towards the evening and the store was pretty vacant. I looked up when someone came in through the door. There was the girl from Lowe’s looking pretty, she captured me once again. I saw Breanne enter in through the door. I knew this was a sign, there’s no way the same girl runs into you at both your jobs within a week. This time I knew I had to act upon it, so I called her that night after I got home from work. I was not working the next day; I asked her if she wanted to spend the next day together with me. She said yes, but in the back of her mind she did not know what type of guy I was, if I had changed or, whether I just wanted action like the first time. Matter of fact, I had changed and I wanted her to see the new me and to see who I really was.
I picked her up and went to help my sister set up for her mission reunion at her church. We saw the movie “Blades of Glory” and had dinner before the film. I drove her home, walked her to the door and kissed her goodnight. We both had a lot of fun that whole day, I wanted to spend more time with her and she wanted to do the same with me. I found something great and wonderful and I wanted to be around her. She is a great member of the Latter –Day- Saint church and holds strong to the standards, and I at times was a little weak. What I loved about courting this girl, is that she loved doing every day activities with me. We both felt it was a great way to get to know one another. She had a strong spirit about her along with a good head on her shoulders and she knew exactly what she wanted in life. She helped me stay strong spiritually so I did not falter or fall and has been a huge help in my life.
After hanging out for such a short period of time I took her on a date. We went to dinner, saw a film, after that I took her home and sat in the car. I played a special song for her and told her I loved her. A few months later we were at my apartment wrestling with one another. I had her pinned down she said three magic words in that moment I will never forget “I love you”. I was like a boy in a candy shop, seeing all the sugary treats in one place with the biggest smile on my face. It was like meeting a super model you have always dreamed of, the girl was amazing and she was mine. For the first time I had something in my grasp that truly made me happy. We continued our progress of dating and it blossomed like a spring flower growing in midday sun. I called Breanne’s mom and asked her for Breanne’s hand in marriage. I promised her mom one thing over the phone that day, to make her daughter happy.
I was excited to propose to the girl I loved. My mom sent me her original engagement ring that I used the diamonds from to put in Breanne’s ring. She was not aware when the ring was ready so I could surprise her. It was a Friday morning when I got the ring and had her roommate help me with the proposal. I got a bottle of her favorite perfume engraved on it “Will you marry me?” Her bedroom window faced the street where I stood. As her roommate gave her the bottle to open, I was outside with a stereo above my head, the song playing was” Only You” by Yaz. Once she heard it, she looked down and saw me, ran to the stairs and opened the door. I got on my knees and asked the most important question of my life” Will you marry me?” She began crying for her joy was finally fulfilled and we had a future.
There are two things I always look for when dating some one. The first is for a girl to make me happy. Breanne is really good at doing that and I was myself with her I did not try to be someone I was not. The second thing I look for is someone to make me a better person, she does just that. She is always positive about me, about my future and the things I can accomplish. She helps me become a stronger member in our church and more spiritual then I was before. She sees things in me that I never see in myself and she helps me with my confidence. I want to live this life for a long time and I do not want to give up on myself so easily like I used to. I have someone to live for and a young lady to care for, along with loving and making her happy for the rest of my life. The girl I met at a church dance I can now proudly call my wife.
